After my conversation with Jack Sorenson, something he said kept echoing: the moment you realize life is leading you instead of the other way around.
That phrase unlocked something I’d been noticing since I started traveling full-time in 2025. In April, when I began pet and house sitting, I met woman after woman—mostly in their thirties and forties—trapped in this exact paradigm. Miserable. Burned out. Running on empty. But this ongoing and increasing trend is not solely about women. Men suffer from this, too.
I recognized myself in every single one of them.
Here’s the brutal truth about how we get stuck:
We take jobs we’re good at but don’t like because others want us to- classic people-pleasing.
We overcommit and constantly let someone down—proving our worth.
We never take time for ourselves—unresolved trauma says everyone else matters more.
We give up our power to whoever speaks loudest—standing in our truth feels terrifying.
Then we declare, “I’m taking my life back!” It lasts two days. Same old shit, new day.
Why? We set goals too high without building the foundation for real change.
I lived this cycle in my thirties and forties. Overachiever. Determined to be liked and respected. Everyone else’s opinions mattered; mine didn’t. My spouse and children suffered. So did I.
My transformation journey changed everything. I faced my trauma, released what didn’t serve me, found my inner child, and finally loved myself. Real self-worth emerged. I stood in my power, recognizing the only opinion that mattered was my own.
The shift wasn’t willpower—it was foundation.
